bright and sunny morning greeted the riders and officials for the Phoenix
C.C. Open 25, named in memory of our the clubs founder, J. J. Kavanagh.
Our Photographer, Keith Linge, is mending well and has managed to get
the camera to his eye to take a few shots, see below, and if required
click for larger view.
The conditions were not very favourable due to the strongish side wind,
(although marginally better than last year when a trench appeared across
the road after workmen decided that Sunday morning during our time trial
was the perfect time to dig a hole in the road).
Some riders suffered more than normal and most said that it was a very
hard race although the winner , John Stopforth (Merseyside Wheelers) finished
with an impressive 56:48. He was 20 seconds ahead of second placed rider,
Andrew Walsh (Birkenhead N.E.) Third placed in the Men category was Peter
Ware (St. Helens CRC). The winner of the Ladies race was Janet Hassell
(Cheshire Constabulary) with 1:06:02.
