Thanks to Peter Ware (St Helens CRC) who compiled this excellent
On what proved to be a hot, sticky afternoon , most riders were glad that
Saturday afternoons event was only a brief ‘10’ and nothing longer.
In the relative shelter of the head quarters car park the day seemed ideal
for fast times but once out onto the by-pass there was a persistently strong
breeze that seemed to hinder the riders in all directions apart from the short
leg from Rainford island to the Wheatsheaf island. In general, the heat and
the breeze made for slower times than was usual, apart from James Stewart
(Ashurt BC) who proved himself to be head and shoulders above the opposition
by taking a comfortable win (the first of a weekend double) and proving himself
to well on form before his three month foray into continental road racing
begins in Belgium next month.
Birkendhead NECC were the winners of the team prize.
