The Phoenix C.C. open ten mile time trial was well attended
on what turned out to be a fine but overcast day. The riders had to fight
against a slight wind on some parts of the course, which did add a few seconds
to most times.
Saturday afternoon, lots of cars around. I'm told that PB's would have been
on the cards for a few riders if the busy dual carriageway traffic hadn't
caused so many problems.
On the road, one of the early starters, No
5, C.Halliwell was traveling quite fast followed next by T.
Phillips. M.Hulme was also
going well. From my photo vantage point I noticed that the riders had the
following wind giving them a boost and as the race progressed it was difficult
to spot the riders that would eventually win a prize.
I.Stott with 21:51 won the men's
top prize, 2nd was S.Jonks,
and 3rd was C.Halliwell.
The vets race produced a faster winner with D.Hilton
with 21:17. 2nd was M.Ellerton
and 3rd was M.Hulme.
The Lady riders were very competitive but C.Gauller
came out on top with L.Tully
second and J.Spurrett third.
Youngster R.Hulme put in great
ride but could not overhaul the winner, A.Pinder
who finished with 22:56. Click on the header to see the Tandem riders,G
and D. Shearer.
The Phoenix riders were:- J.Hampson,
T.Phillips, J.Leach
and A.Winstanley.
A good team effort by the Phoenix C.C. organising crew ensured a smooth and
efficient event.
