Thanks to all the riders who turned up and rode our Kavanagh
25 knowing that the weather at the start was threatening rain and there was
a brisk breeze blowing from the SW.
Sure enough there was steady rain for most of the race with a final downpour
for the last few riders, (See photos).
The conditions became quite treacherous and the riders made their way around
the 4 islands, slippery bends and junctions with great skill and judgment
and all finished safely, (there were two DNF's but for other reasons).
In the poor conditions we still saw some strong rides throughout. In the mens
section, Garry Brown, (Equipe Velo Ecosse) was the winner with 00:56:56 followed
by Neil Higgins, (Preston C.C.) with 00:57:53 and Daniel Burrows (Cheltenham
and County C.C.) with 00:58:46.
The Ladies race was much closer with Kate Dwyer (St.Helens C.C.) winning with
a time of 1:09:25 and Janet Hassall, (Birkenhead N.E.) next with 1:09:56.
The team of three prize went to John Williamson, David Wright, and Trevor
Horton from Warrington R.C.with a total time of 3:01:05.
